Click on this button (it is located on the
Main Menu dialog)
to launch the Survey Entry dialog. The dialog will open and you will be able to start entering survey data or open an existing survey text file for editing.
Dialog overview
The Survey Entry dialog is the first step in entering a property survey into the GIS system as a parcel. The source for your survey can be a survey sheet or a deed that has 'metes-and-bounds' or 'survey pair' coordinates on it. This system of measuring boundaries is sometimes also referred to as Coordinate Geometry, or COGO. The dialog allows you to enter, test, and save a survey as a text file, which you can later edit if need be. This file can be drawn as a line feature during an editing session using the
Parcel Editor dialog,
or if you prefer you can draw it as a feature or a graphic shape directly from the Survey Entry dialog. The ability to enter, edit and save long surveys can save you lots of time that would be wasted retyping an entire survey if you made an error.
