Parcel Editor - Theme, Undo, Edit, and Help Buttons

Stop or Start Editing button

This button stops and starts the editing of a theme. When you are editing a theme, it appears as a hand and pressing it will stop editing (you will be asked if you want to save your edits and then if you want to quit the Parcel Editor). If you are not editing a theme, it will appear as a capital 'E' and pressing it will start editing the first active theme in your View.

Occasionally the 'hand' symbol will mistakenly appear when you are not actually editing a theme; this happens when you stop editing a theme by using a control other than this one (i.e. by using the standard ArcView ‘Theme-->Stop Editing’ menu choice, or by saving the project while editing). The button will still work correctly (pressing it will start editing the first active line theme), it just doesn't know to change its icon. You can always tell if the theme is editable by looking to see if its check box on the View's table of contents has a dotted line around it.

Save Edits (As) button

This button gives you the option of saving your edits or saving them under a different name (which will create a new copy of the theme you are working on--you will then start editing the new copy).

Undo button

This undoes the last edit to the theme you are editing. You cannot undo edits previous to the last save, but you can undo several consecutive edits. Press 'Redo' to redo an undo.

Redo button

This redoes an 'Undo' you have just done.

Cut button

This will remove the selected lines from the theme you are editing and copy them to the clipboard. Use this button either to delete unwanted lines or if you want to paste them back into the theme later.

Paste button

Use this button to paste the last set of lines you cut back into the theme you are editing.

Help button

Clicking this button opens a message telling you the web address of this help document.
