Introduction - How to create a polygon shapefile

A polygon shapefile is the best way to represent parcels of land. You can use these dialogs to create a polygon shapefile by drawing the parcel boundaries as lines, building the lines into polygons, and adding attribute data to each polygon. If your parcel map then requires further editing (if you need to add new parcels or change the boundaries of some parcels) you can unbuild the polygons back into lines (and at the same time preserve the polygons' attributes using labelpoints). You can then edit the lines and build them back into polygons, replacing the attribute data that has been stored in the labelpoints.
